Not so great experience
This hotel is set above Gonder in a quiet location affording good views when it’s not hazy. The resort and rooms have been designed to a very high standard: modern and luxurious. Beds are comfortable and rooms spacious with a balcony offering a view. Large bathroom with plenty of hot water. There are some problems though: 1. No air conditioning. It can get very hot at night in the warmer months. Even with the balcony windows open and a cross breeze from open bathroom windows it can be hot until it cools down in the early morning. Plus, with all these windows open, it doesn’t feel private. 2. There used to be a phone in the room but it doesn’t work. Instead, you get a piece of islet advising you what telephone numbers to call for reception. Not very useful for foreign guests on data only SIM card plans in an emergency. 3. The property is vast. Your bungalow could be a long walk to the restaurant and it’s not well lit everywhere. There is only one golf cart to ferry luggage from rooms to reception, so if there is a large group leaving in the morning your departure may be delayed while you wait for your bag. 4. WIFI only available in lobby and restaurant. It’s speedy when it works, but jerks cutting in and out. 5. The food is poor. Even the buffet breakfast is dreadful either powdered eggs and curdled yoghurt. The only things edible are fresh fruit and veg. Completely unacceptable for a hotel of this standing. Eat at the Four Sisters in town instead. But sadly, because of a curfew of 8 PM for cars in the Amhara area, you are a captive at the hotel for dinner and breakfast.
